What is the meaning of the name Puffy Pocket Boys?
PPB: "Puffy
Pocket Boys means to grind hard and get money the best way you know
how. The name oringally came from what we were calling ourselves in high
school because we all had dreams being rich. Naturally that was the
first name to come to mind when we thought about naming the group".
How did the group come together?
PPB: "Our group has always been made up of our friends from school. We all went to Eastern Senior High School in South East, DC".
What song was your first big hit?
PPB: "Our
first hit song to me I think was "Flow Of The Century". We did the song
and drop the video on WorldStarHipHop.com and the streets went crazy.
We gained a lot of buzz and respect from that song. We even got radio
play on WPGC".
For the people who don't live in the DC area, can you explain how the city has influenced your music?
PPB: "We
are a product of a city where 3 things can happen growing up here. You
can get killed, go to jail or go to college. So, we experienced a lot
with odds against us not to make it or to just be average. We have had
our trouble with the law, been to college and like many others, I've
had some of my friends shot and killed. Stamp the city has influenced
every word we say when we rap. Our motto is "F*** Em All" and we mean it
because if you not with us your against us and our city made us this
way and we express it in our music".
Where do you get the inspiration to create music?
PPB: "Looking
at how other artist got in the industry with a major artist co sign and
how we are doing the opposite by working so hard independently is what
inspires us. We feel like making great music is what we were meant to
do with our lives".
What makes PPB music different from other artist out there?
PPB: "Our
music is true. Not just made up stuff from our imagination. Everything
that is said on our song is what we actually experienced first hand.
Our song concepts are catchy and unusual. We feel like a lot of the
songs out here are similar or almost exactly the same. Our music sticks
out, but in a good way. For example I cant rap about a Bentley that I
dont own or have never driven lol".
What are you working on at the moment?
PPB: "At the moment we working on dropping our 6th mixtape "No Keys" October 31, 2014 this Halloween with our leading single "BirdMan". Also the "BirdMan" video will be dropping on WorldStarHipHop.com"
Do you have anything in the near future we should look out for?
PPB: "In
the near future be on the look out for our next project "No F**ks Will
Be Given" and "Beat Killers 3" the 3rd installment to the "Beat Killers"
series where we go in on the hottest industry beat at the time".
Do you have any advice for inspiring artist who want to make it in the industry?
PPB: "My
advice to up and coming artist is to stay true to what you doing. Dont
let someone who doesnt know your struggle tell you how to be "you". Stay
positive because everybody not gonna like your music or you in general.
Most of all never stop no matter what the circumstances are. If you
want to make it, you have to take it because no one is gonna give you
anything. You might hear no a million times, but all it take is one yes
to change your life"
